About

A public talk by Professor Liza Tsaliki, Head of the Department of Communication and Media Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Still Seen, Still Desired: Women Over 45 and the Role of Media and Celebrity Culture explores how older women challenge stereotypes of asexuality often imposed by Western society. Professor Tsaliki looks at how women over 45, are represented in media and popular culture, and the vital role of sexuality, self-expression in empowerment.

She will draw on contemporary Greek celebrity culture, including figures like Kaiti Garbi, Despina Vandi, Anna Vissi, and Eleni Menegaki. And will show how women assert visibility and relevance without succumbing to unrealistic expectations of eternal youth or fading into asexuality.
